situations, such as those between co-workers, supervisor and employee, and
management and staff. As well, it helps to resolve work group conflicts,
grievances, and board-related issues.
The intervention varies depending on the context of the dispute in question.
Facilitated Solutions provides the following services:
Some Facilitated Solutions
clients include:
The City of Winnipeg; Provincial and Federal government departments; Health Sciences Centre; Manitoba Teachers’ Society; Manitoba Hydro; a variety of public, private, and non-profit organizations.
INTERPERSONAL MEDIATION
In Interpersonal Mediation, impartial mediators provide a safe and respectful
process for individuals in conflict. They help participants to explore the
issues, develop a better understanding of the conflict, and arrive at mutually
agreed upon resolutions. In addition to conflicted work relationships, contexts
include:
- Return to work
- Grievances
- Severance packages

GROUP FACILITATION
Group facilitation is often helpful when an organization needs to resolve a
single contentious issue, review its mission statement, bring together policies
and practice when two groups merge, navigate a change of services or focus, or
integrate diversity strategies.
Experienced facilitators can provide structure, focus and support for resolving
difficult issues, freeing leaders to participate in decision making, and
developing sustainable and realistic conflict resolutions.

MANAGEMENT COACHING
Coaching is a means of providing feedback to managers, supervisors, or
organizational leaders about how they respond to challenging workplace
situations. Together with the coach, these leaders develop effective strategies
for confronting difficult issues efficiently and respectfully. Skills to be
developed or enhanced may include the following:
- How to deal with difficult employees/clients
- How to lead effective meetings
- How to make difficult decisions
- How to delegate work
- How to manage diverse employees

DISPUTE SYSTEMS DESIGN (DSD)
While many organizations have systems in place to deal with escalated
longstanding conflict, few have formalized ways to resolve conflicts in the
early stages.
Our facilitators can help your organization develop an integrated system to deal
with conflict in all its phases. They will help you to put in place an approach
that will anticipate, manage and resolve conflict promptly, effectively, and
cost efficiently.
TRAINING
Facilitated Solutions offers a variety of training courses to equip participants
to deal effectively with conflict. Qualified trainers draw on their experience
as practitioners in conflict resolution, mediation, facilitation, and
negotiation to encourage learning in a respectful environment. Training courses
are provided in cooperation with Mediation Services of Winnipeg and are
beneficial to employees, managers, and individuals in a variety of social
contexts. They include:
- Addressing Workplace Conflict

ORGANIZATIONAL ASSESSMENTS
In an Organizational Assessment, a facilitator assists an organization with a
review of its workplace climate in order to help management understand areas of
concern and identify ways of addressing those concerns.
The assessment includes interviews with staff and reviews of relevant documents
including the goals and mission of the organization. The facilitator typically
works closely with organization to:
- Identify recurring disputes
- Address underlying causes of conflict
- Address group-related problems
PARENT TEEN MEDIATION
For parents, setting limits for teens is often challenging. When issues escalate
and negotiation is no longer possible, a third party mediator can help.
A Facilitated Solutions mediator meets first with the parent and then with the
teen to describe the mediation process, and if both parties agree to use it,
issues are listed. Joint meetings are scheduled and, with the mediator present,
the issues are discussed and resolved, one issue at a time. Written agreements
are kept following each meeting.
SEPARATION AND DIVORCE MEDIATION
Facilitated Solutions mediators can help separating couples to clarify issues
and negotiate a mutually acceptable agreement concerning questions that commonly
arise in connection with a separation and divorce. Those issues may include: the
payment of bills, family home and who will reside in it, how assets will be
divided, how bank accounts will be dealt with, whether support should be payable
for a spouse, the children’s care and with whom they will live, how decisions
will be made about their lives, how much time each parent will spend with the
children, and how much money will be payable by one parent to the other as
support for the children.
ESTATE DISPUTE MEDIATION
Because most families are reluctant to enter into litigation, mediation is
particularly suited to estate disputes. Mediation provides a safe environment in
which factors can be considered outside the adversarial system. The mediator
helps families to identify their different interests and motivations, and gives
equal opportunity for each party to participate in the process. Counsel can also
be present if necessary.
Mediation can help resolve such estate-related issues as the validity of wills,
elder abuse claims, dependents’ claims, parental support claims, variation of
trusts, grandparent access claims, long term care issues, power of attorney
disputes, guardianship plans, access to health care, and housing issues.
